PTA Reflections Art Program Contest Kick-Off!

Did you know it is National Arts in Education Week this week?


In 2010, the U.S. House of Representatives passed House Resolution #275 designating the second week of September as "Arts in Education Week." The resolution states: [...] Arts education, comprising a rich array of disciplines including dance, theatre, media arts, literature, design and visual arts, is a core academic subject and an essential element of a complete and balanced education for all students.  

Buri Buri PTA is celebrating this special week by kicking off our national PTA Reflections Art Program Contest!  This year's theme is "Let Your Imagination Fly".

PTA’s national Reflections Art Program has brought the arts to life for more than 10 million students since 1969. And California State PTA and its members, families and kids are on the forefront of this amazing program, which increases community awareness of the importance of arts in education.

Reflections encourages students of all ages to:

• Unleash creative talents and be inspired
• Express themselves imaginatively in their artwork
• Experience the fun and joy of making art
• Tap into critical-thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme
• Receive positive recognition for their original works of art.

This week, a flier will be sent home promoting the Reflections Art Program Contest along with the Rules and Submission form.  All entries are due by Thursday, October 15th.  The contest is open to ALL Buri Buri students and we encourage EVERYONE to participate!

The Buri Buri PTA will celebrate and recognize ALL entries submitted for the contest.  We are hoping to host a real life Art Opening at a local coffee shop in late October and will also be proudly displaying the artwork at our November PTA Meeting!

Membership Contest!

Hello Buri Buri Families!

Our membership drive is in full swing! We have 222 members as of 9/12/15! Thank you to all those who have joined the PTA :) We appreciate your willingness to join and support the PTA and all we do for our kids. 

We are having a little contest between the classes to see who gets to 100% member representation first. Mrs. Rivera's class is winning so far with over 70% of her students with at least 1 family member joining the PTA. 

The first class to 100% will win $250 to be spent as the teacher chooses. 

Classes that have the highest gains month-to-month will also win prizes like grab bag toys and drawings for gift cards for spirit wear and restaurant nights. Please join today!

To join: 

Turn in this MEMBERSHIP FORM and $10 dues to the office or your child's teacher. 

If you are not able to print the form, just include your name, email, phone number, student's name, classroom teacher and room number with dues payment.

Updates: PTA Meeting, LEAP Registration, Restaurant Night, Reflections

Back to School Night and 1st PTA Meeting

Here are some updates from our first meeting.

• Play structures are now open! Hopscotch and other fun things are being painted on the blacktop. Plans are for a much larger play space and a second play structure at the back of the campus as construction moves along. 
• The 5th grade building will open soon!
• Spirit wear sales have begun. Turn in your order to the office or your child's teacher. Print the order form here: SPIRIT WEAR
• PTA Officers were introduced. We have an amazing board doing excellent work. If you would like to join the board, it's not too late! Please see this page for more details: PTA LEADERSHIP
• PTA Budget and Calendar were both approved. Check back here often for event announcements and volunteer opportunities. 

LEAP 

LEAP Registration was a huge success. Initial Minecraft slots were filled in the first 5 minutes! Minecraft was in such demand that we decided to offer a second class on the same day right after the first. It was filled by people who registered online on 9/5/15. Don't forget to submit your payments if you got an email confirmation of enrollment. Payment is due Friday 9/11/15.

There are still slots open in a few LEAP classes:

• Tuesday-Hip Hop
• Wednesday- Bricks 4 Kids (Lego)
• Friday-Academic Chess

Restaurant Night

Our first restaurant night of the year will be on Wednesday Sept 23 at Pieology near Serramonte in the new Gellert Square shopping center. You must bring in the flyer that will be sent home on the day of the Restaurant night. We'll also post one to print here on this site. Please tell your friends. 20% of the night's proceeds (from people who bring in the flyer) will go to Buri Buri! We'll see you there!

Reflections National PTA Art Contest

Melissa Kohlmeister, or amazing past PTA president is now the Reflections Chair for the PTA. The theme this year is "Let Your Imagination Fly". Spirit Wear Orders Open Now!

UPDATE: 9/30/15 Spirit Wear orders are now closed. We may have a few things after the delivery in November but we can't guarantee it. We generally sell what we have at PTA events so please check in there or leave a comment. If there is a lot of demand we may do another order in the spring. Please let us know if you're interested. Thanks!
